What your first session with me may look like

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect.

The first session is simply a chance for us to get to know each other and see whether working together feels right for you.

What we’ll do in the first session

There is no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.

We’ll usually begin by talking through what has brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for from the process. This might be clear, or it might feel uncertain — and both are completely okay.

I may ask some gentle questions to help understand your situation better, but the session is led by you and what feels comfortable.

How it might feel

People often feel a mix of things before their first session — nervous, uncertain, or not quite sure what to say.

This is very normal. Therapy doesn’t require you to have the “right words” or a clear explanation of everything. Part of the process is figuring things out together.

After the first session

At the end of the session, we can talk briefly about whether it feels like a good fit to continue working together.

There is no obligation to continue, and it’s important that you feel comfortable with your choice.

If it doesn’t feel right, I will always aim to support you in finding a more suitable option.
